Memorization of scriptures, we might think it's not important or worthwhile.
The truth is that it actually does pay.
If we've ever been in a situation where we actually need to pray scriptures and we don't have anything to say then we would know how important it is to learn scriptures by heart.
However, the importance of knowing scriptures can't be overemphasized
Sometimes we ask how much of scriptures can we commit to heart, but the truth is that with the right method of memorization we can commit a whole lot of scriptures to heart
So don't be afraid of how much scriptures you can memorize, just remember that you can do all things through Christ that strengthens you.
Another thing we should note is: you have to develop patience and be consistent during the course of your memorization. Not that you start and then become inconsistent in it.
The reward is actually inconsistency and diligence.
An Empire can't be built in a day, it takes years of commitment, dedication, hard work, and persistence
Same applies to us who would love to embark on this journey.
You might ask if memorizing scriptures pays. Yes, I'd say it does.
If we critically examine the life of Jesus we'd discover he wouldn't have been able to overcome Satan and all he encountered who needed his help and required his understanding of scriptures.
The Bible tells us that one of the effective tools in defeating Satan is the word of God.
* We should understand that Bible memorization is not a 2 years course or 6-month program but it's a lifetime discipline.
TIPS ON MEMORIZING SCRIPTURES
1. Begin with passages you're familiar with
We would discover that there are some passages of the bible we are familiar with but we have not committed them to heart.
Starting with such scriptures helps us learn the scripture faster and aids proper remembrance.
2. Record yourself
This method is very effective, all you need do is record yourself saying the scripture and then listen to it often.
It's good for short scriptures such as verses but less effective in chapters.
3. Make the verses visible.
When I talk about making them visible I mean to write them out on a sheet of paper and attach them to your dressing mirror, so you can regularly see them
Or you can paste them on the walls of your room. The essence is just to make them visible, so place them in places you can see them often.
4. Say it aloud
If you can remember whenever you want to commit something to heart (probably a definition or your phone number) you say it loud and to yourself.
Same can be said about memorizing scriptures it ain't different.
* Repetition is the key to remembrance.
5. Write verses by hand
The true fact about writing is that it helps cement the phrase or words that are being written, the more you write the more it sticks.
Logically speaking writing helps you picture what is to be memorized, again the more you write the better you're brain is able to picture the written word.
6. Carry it along
In order to remind your self about the verses, you can carry along an index card which the scriptures to be memorized are written on.
7. Translate
Translating would be good for people who can speak more than one language. Translating the scriptures helps you understand it better and gives you a different perspective of the scriptures.
The hidden truth about translating scriptures your self is, it makes your brain think about the right word to use making your plundering on the scripture, leading to knowing it automatically.
8. Incorporate
Haven known different method or tips on how to memorize the scriptures, incorporating them in your prayers better helps in knowing them. Since you've committed them by heart(memorized them) they just come naturally when you pray.
Learn to incorporate(use) scriptures when praying.
9. Choose scriptures related to your problems
You've started using memorized scriptures, fine, but in addition to number 8 tip, you could learn scriptures that are related to the problems you're facing so you would be able to incorporate them while praying.
